19. About Little GarmentsTM
1. How to Measure
Often the height of a child is a better guide to choosing a size than his or her age. We have included the Sizing Chart for each specific garment on each page for your convenience.
- Finished back length (Dresses or Jumpers)
Take tape measure and place it on the base of the neck down to the length mention on the measurement charts. Then compare this with the length you desire. Before ordering, if the length is too short or long please call us to order a different length.
- Height/ Length
Have child stand in stocking feet, with feet together and back to a wall. Measure from the floor to the top of the head. For infants, measure from the bottom of the heel to the top of the head.
- Waist
Measure around the waist (not over pants) at your Childs natural waist
- Garment Side Length (Bloomers)
Measure a similar pair of pants that fits your child well. Lay the pants flat and measure from waist to the bottom of one leg. (Bloomer are full and made to pull up a little)

2. What is your turn-around time or how long will it take?
We are a family owned business and I am the only seamstress for Little GarmentsTM. Each order is custom sewn after you place your order. We do not have any Little GarmentsTM in stock but will be planning on this in the future.
Our usual time is 3-4 weeks for your custom made Garments, but that may vary according to how busy we are. Our customers are on a first-come, first-serve basis, so we will contact with a time estimate after we receive you order.

3. Request for Proposal
All Little GarmentsTM styles and prices are available in our on-line store. If you would like one of our Little GarmentsTM using other variables of material, size, extra pretty things, and extra time we would be happy to give you a proposal. We would need the details of what you would like in order to give a price. Please, call us at 406-933-5440 to request a proposal. Thank you.
4. How much of a hem do your garments have?
Our dresses and jumpers come with a hem that averages 1" or less, depending on the style. If you would like a larger hem, please state that when you order. We do not recommend letting the hem out on garments that are cotton or poly/cotton because a fade-line may form along the hem.

5. Do you pre-shrink or adjust the fabric to allow for shrinkage?
Little GarmentsTM does not pre-shrink or adjust the fabric to allow for shrinkage. Our garments are made with the exact measurements shown in the sizing chart.
Note: Please allow for approximately 1 inch shrinkage per yard on our 100% cotton fabrics. Unless your little girls are at the high end of a size, there is no need to size up. Any exceptions are noted in the specific garment description.
*See Laundering & Caring for your Garments for more information on care of fabric.
6. Why use 100% cotton?
Cotton fabric is popular because of its warmth and comfort and because it’s easy to care for and comfortable year-round. In hot, humid weather, cotton “breathes.” As the body perspires, cotton fibers absorb the moisture and release it on the surface of the fabric, so it evaporates. In cold weather, if the fabric remains dry, the fibers retain body heat, especially napped fabrics.
Cotton is easy to clean; it can be laundered or dry-cleaned. Better quality cottons don’t have a lot of sizing (a finish that makes the fabric appear firmer). As a fabric’s sizing dissipates with repeated washings, the fabric loses its crisp hand. This information came from SEW-lutions at www.sewing.org.
Note: If you want to add crispness to the garment, you could use fabric starch also.

7. Laundering & Caring for your Garments
Most cotton fabrics can be laundered in the washing machine. Wash white items and medium colors in warm water and dark colors in cold water. Cotton will shrink more in hot water than cold. Machine wash cold, gentle cycle. Tumble dry low, remove promptly. Do not bleach. Fabric softener not recommended.
Note: It has been said that 100% cotton can loose its vibrant colors, strength, and durability. Therefore to increase the life of your Little GarmentsTM it is recommend you wash it with like colors and hang it to dry. Using detergents with stain fighting enzymes may cause color transfer.
8. What hours are you open for business?
Hours: 9:00 am – 3:00pm PST Monday thru Friday
We are closed on Saturday & Sunday
9. Where are the Little Garments made?

17. What does the statement “Not Intended/Suitable for Childrens Sleepwear” mean?
Our flannel fabrics are 100% cotton. Some of our Baby and Children Nightgowns will be made from flannel that is “Not Suitable for Children’s Sleepwear.” This is because they have not been treated with any chemicals or fire retardants and are not tight fitting.
Here is what we have available!
- Some of the flannel we use will be “Suitable for children’s Sleepwear” and some will not. We will note this on each material piece to help you in deciding.
- If you would like to order a custom-made Baby & Children’s nightgown out of Flame Retardant Flannel, please let us know and we would be happy to do this. There may be an extra fee depending on the price & availability of the fabric.
More information:
People have become increasingly concerned about safety, especially when it regards our children. In the 70s a new flammability ruling was created, stating that fabric sold for childrens sleepwear and childrens clothing sold as sleepwear must meet flammability standards, or be clearly marked as "not suitable for childrens sleepwear" (if it appeared to be a sleepwear type item). If the fabric did not pass flammability tests, it would need to be treated with fire retardant.
Many people were unhappy with these standards because they preferred natural fibers such as cotton, to polyester (chemically treated or not) and they did not like the idea of adding chemicals to clothing their children would be wearing to bed. Due to public pressure, the standards have been changed from the original rules. As of this writing (2005), these rules apply to sleepwear sizes 9 months to 14.
“U.S. CONSUMER PRODUCT SAFETY COMMISSION”
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) now states (as of this writing, 2005):
1. The fabric and garments must pass certain flammability tests, or
2. be "tight fitting" as defined by certain dimensions.
The reason for "tight fitting" is that loose garments are more likely to come into contact with a flame.
More information: click here to read “Children’s Sleepwear Regulations” http://www.cpsc.gov/businfo/regsumsleepwear.pdf
For further questions, contact the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Learn the benefits and risks regarding the use of various fabrics. Do you feel safer using a fabric that passes flammability tests, or would you prefer to use natural fibers and follow "tight fitting" standards?
We hope you are better able to make a decision.
